The strongest marketing position for a martial arts or self-defense instructor is to become the local media expert. For example, when there is an active shooter event, many of our partner COBRA-Defense instructors will get the call to comment on the event.

Many of those instructors are invited back over-and-over because we teach them how to explain self-defense scenarios in short sound bites.

Below, you’ll see me provide commentary on the Waffle House shooting. This is my second commentary/interview for WOIO in the past month.

Once you prove to a producer or host that you are a good, entertaining, and engaging guest, you will be called again because you lower the risk. The media knows what they are getting in advance and that makes their job easier.

This was a Facetime interview, so the video is a bit dark and pixelated. My shirt should have provided more contrast and I was also sitting lower than I should have been. Try to keep the camera just under eye level.
